THE VALUE OF LEARNING TABLA IN PERSON

Tabla is a highly detailed and expressive percussion instrument. Proper hand position, finger placement, wrist movement, clarity of sound, balance between the dayan and bayan, posture, and control of dynamics are essential parts of learning the instrument correctly.

In-person instruction allows the teacher to observe these details closely and provide immediate correction. Students can see demonstrations directly, listen carefully to the quality of each stroke, repeat compositions with the teacher, and receive personalized guidance during every stage of development.

This direct interaction creates an environment where students can develop not only technical ability, but also listening skills, concentration, confidence, discipline, and musical sensitivity.

CLASSES FOR ALL LEVELS

Rhythm Eternal offers in-person tabla instruction for students at different stages of their musical journey.

Beginner Students

Beginner students are introduced to proper sitting posture, hand positioning, fundamental tabla strokes, basic bols, rhythmic counting, simple taals, foundational compositions, and disciplined practice habits.

AUTHENTIC TRAINING ROOTED IN MUSICAL LINEAGE

Rhythm Eternal’s teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in the traditions of Indian Classical Music and the Punjab Gharana of tabla.

Founder and Artistic Director Anirban Roy Chowdhury is an internationally acclaimed tabla artist, educator, composer, and performer. His musical training was shaped through years of intensive and immersive study with legendary masters.

He studied for seven years with Ustad Alla Rakha, followed by more than a decade of rigorous training under Pandit Yogesh Samsi in Mumbai, and continued advanced studies for more than fifteen years under the guidance of Padma Vibhushan Ustad Zakir Hussain in the United States.

His training was based on an immersive approach to learning. During his years of intensive study, much of the day was spent in close proximity to his Gurus—learning compositions, observing practice methods, listening, repeating, discussing musical ideas, and attending concerts and performances.

This experience allowed him to understand how traditional compositions are taught, developed, interpreted, performed in tabla solo, and creatively applied in accompaniment.

At Rhythm Eternal, this living tradition is shared with students through a structured, disciplined, and encouraging teaching approach.
